* By August 24 and 25 the potato harvest will be in at Barnesville, Minnesota, so join locals for two days of fun, feasting, music and vendors known as Minnesota’s Potato Days Festival.
* At the Heard Museum in Phoenix, the exhiibit “Beyond Geronimo: The Apache Experience” opens February 11 and stays through next January 20. Many of these Native American artifacts have never been show in public before.
* Navy Pier is the setting for the stunning Chicago Flower and Garden Show March 10-18. See floral extravaganzas plus seminars, cooking demonstrations and fun for the kids.
* The Adventures of MR. POTATO HEAD® is displayed at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum through May 6. What fun!
* Chocoholics, unite! The Virginia Chocolate Festival is celebrated in Norfolk March 22-25 with food, music and chocolate in all its forms and flavors.
* Andy Warhol and Friends are featured in the grand opening of the new home of the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts in Tampa on March 10 from 8 p.m. until midnight. Black tie is optional but do wear black, white, or black and white. Cocktails and canapes will be served and there will be both live and silent auctions. Advance tickets are $75 for one, $125 per couple. Ticket price includes Museum membership.
* What are the best places in Pennsylvania’s Allegheny National Forest to paste a kiss on your Valentine? This is just a start: under a streetlight at the Zippo/Case Museum, on the Rimrock Overlook, on the Marilla Bridges Trail or on Veterans Square in downtown Bradford.
* It’s the 80th year for the Bach Festival performed at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. This year it’s April 13-15.
* Plan now somewhere that is having a boffo Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 6. How about Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood with its food, floats and music. Dancing begins at noon.

Janet Groene Bio
A paid, freelance journalist since the age of 12, Janet Groene (GRAYnee) was a junior high school student when the local weekly newspaper hired her as a stringer. More than two dozen books and thousands of magazine features later, Janet is a full-time writer whose lance remains free.

Groene began freelancing in earnest as a way to work at home and choose her own hours when her husband, Gordon, was a professional pilot. While still in their young 30's the couple sold everything, bought a sailing sloop and left cold winters behind. For ten years, the Groenes were happily homeless, sailing the tropics in winter and summering in their fully self-contained, 21-foot diesel RV.

It soon became clear that Janet’s writing and Gordon’s photography could sustain them in a new career as professional travelwriters. When assignments began taking them all over the world to write about sailing and powerboating they sold their boat and settled in Florida. They still have the RV. Gordon’s health keeps him closer to home now so, when they aren’t traveling in the RV, Janet travels alone now to most of her assignments
