Janet Groene is a professional travelwriter, author of more than 25 books and thousands of magazine and newspaper features. She blogs at five sites on travel,  travel food,  camping, yachting and cruising.

Dates below are NOT in chronological order. Scroll down to check out all events. Pick and choose, mark your calendar.

NOW, NEW YORK, New  York. Now included in the price of admission to  South Street Seaport is a view of the massive cargo hold of the 134-year-old steel ship Wavertree.  Built in England in the 1880s, the riveted wrought iron sailing ship was dismasted in 1910 and not re-rigged until her restoration. See Watertree along New York’s stunning “Street of Ships”.

AUGUST 2-18, INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana. There’s nothing like a real State Fair and nothing quite like the way they do it in Indiana. From livestock to live music, peach preserves to persimmon pie, thrill rides to the midway,  this is Americana at its best, a yearly Midwest event not to be missed. Order an insider guide to the Hoosier State here.

AUGUST 30-SEPTEMER 2, COOKVILLE, Tennesssee. The Muddy Roots Festival with dozens of music groups plays Junebug Ranch in a weekend of good listening, cold beer, honest hometown food  fixin’s and nice folks. Camping and hot showers are free.

AUGUST 31, HUNTSVILLE, Alabama. At the India Festival learn about that nation’s culture, heritage, art, cuisine, dance, music, fashion, handicrafts, merchandise. The keynote speaker is Mr. Arun M. Gandhi, grandson of the late Mahatma.Ghandi. Order the best India cookbook here.

AUGUST 17, HELEN, Georgia. Join park rangers in Smithgall Woods for a look at the nighttime forest under ultraviolet light. Learn about natural florescence. Bring drinking water, good shoes and a small flashlight. Meet at 7. Register by August 10. Parking is $5 and hike is $10.

Janet Groene, Travelwriter, Author, Columnist

Updated March, 2018
My lance is free and always has been. Whether it's a one-time assignment or ongoing commitment from a truly professional freelance writer, I'm on the job. I'm an independent business person who writes, not an unemployed or wannabe "writer" who is "freelancing" while looking for a salaried job. I meet deadlines with professional copy.  Contact me at 386.658.1586 or janetgroene@yahoo.com. I'm at my desk Eastern time 9-5 but may have limited e-mail access when I'm on the go.

 Janet Groene Bio
A paid, freelance journalist since the age of 12, Janet Groene (GRAYnee) was a junior high school student when the local weekly newspaper hired her as a stringer. More than two dozen books and thousands of magazine features later, Janet is a full-time writer whose lance remains free.

Groene began freelancing in earnest as a way to work at home and choose her own hours when her husband, Gordon, was a professional pilot. While still in their young 30's the couple sold everything, bought a sailing sloop and left cold winters behind. For ten years, the Groenes were happily homeless, sailing the tropics in winter and summering in their self-contained, 21-foot diesel RV.

It soon became clear that Janet’s writing and Gordon’s photography could sustain them in a new career as professional travelwriters. When assignments began taking them all over the world they  settled in Florida. Gordon died in 2016 and Janet continues to travel on her many assignments.
