NOVEMBER 3-5, STUART, FLORIDA. The annual Stuart Air Show is two days of flat-out aviation awe. All day, both days, there’s a Kids Zone, static displays and amusement rides. Afternoons are filled with stunt flying and acrobatic displays that take your breath away. Other events will include a Dirty Flight Suit Party, night-time stunt flying and fireworks.

The South's most prestigious museum of western art is the focus of a festival that features music on three stages, events for children, food and the arts.

OCTOBER 21-22, NEW JERSEY How many New Jersey lighthouses can you visit or climb in one weekend? To raise funds for maintenance and restoration of these historic beacons, visitors buy a $25 lanyard then take the Lighthouse Challenge. Visit lighthouses, museums and keepers’ cottages. Night climbs will be available at Absecon, Cape May, and Tuckerton on Saturday.

OCTOBER 21, CARRABELLE, FLORIDA. Treat yourself to one of North Florida’s best and least known  festivals. Discover this gem of a fishing village southwest of Tallahassee. At the annual Lantern Fest, woods and water are lit up in, on and around the historic Crooked River Lighthouse. Hear stories, bask in lantern glow, listen to the Irish band Killavil, sample great local  foods.

OCTOBER 31-NOVEMBER 5, GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY. The CP National Horse Show showcases the nation’s best hunter-jumper equestrians as the vie for $250,000 in prizes. During the five days enjoy horsemanship, fellowship, music and celebrations.

Janet Groene, Travelwriter, Author, Columnist

Updated September 3, 2017
My lance is free and always has been. Whether it's a one-time assignment or ongoing commitment from a truly professional freelance writer, I'm on the job. I'm an independent business person who writes, not an unemployed or wannabe "writer" who is "freelancing" while looking for a salaried job. I meet deadlines with professional copy.  Contact me at 386.658.1586 or janetgroene@yahoo.com. I'm at my desk Eastern time 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. but may have limited e-mail access when I'm on the go.

This blog, janetgroene.blogspot.com, is published frequently. It's primarily a bio but, just for window dressing, I add fresh travel teasers showing  upcoming events

 Janet Groene Bio
A paid, freelance journalist since the age of 12, Janet Groene (GRAYnee) was a junior high school student when the local weekly newspaper hired her as a stringer. More than two dozen books and thousands of magazine features later, Janet is a full-time writer whose lance remains free.

Groene began freelancing in earnest as a way to work at home and choose her own hours when her husband, Gordon, was a professional pilot. While still in their young 30's the couple sold everything, bought a sailing sloop and left cold winters behind. For ten years, the Groenes were happily homeless, sailing the tropics in winter and summering in their self-contained, 21-foot diesel RV.

It soon became clear that Janet’s writing and Gordon’s photography could sustain them in a new career as professional travelwriters. When assignments began taking them all over the world to write about sailing and powerboating they sold their boat and settled in Florida. Gordon died in 2016 and Janet continues to travel on her many assignments.
